MASTER ELECTRICIAN
Part-time, non-exempt | Approximately 25 hours per week
Weathervane Playhouse seeks an experienced Master Electrician to execute lighting designs and support lighting and electrical operations for its production season. This hands-on position works closely with lighting designers and production staff to prepare, install, focus, program, maintain, and strike theatrical lighting systems.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in theatrical lighting and electrics.
- BA or BFA in Technical Theatre or a related field preferred; equivalent professional experience will be considered.
- Ability to read and interpret light plots, channel hookups, instrument schedules, and related lighting paperwork.
- Working knowledge of conventional, LED, and automated lighting fixtures; theatrical power distribution; DMX and lighting control systems.
- Experience programming theatrical lighting consoles; ETC EOS-family experience preferred.
- Strong troubleshooting, communication, organizational, and collaborative skills.
- Knowledge of theatrical electrical and workplace safety practices.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and safely work on ladders, lifts, and at heights.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Experience with rigging, projection, networking, or other technical theatre areas is a plus.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Execute lighting designs from advance paperwork through hang, circuiting, focus, programming, technical rehearsals, and strike.
- Prepare and maintain lighting paperwork and equipment for each production.
- Hang, circuit, address, focus, and troubleshoot conventional, LED, and automated lighting fixtures.
- Program lighting consoles during technical rehearsals and other production calls as assigned.
- Maintain and repair lighting fixtures, cables, control equipment, and related electrical systems.
- Coordinate with lighting designers, stage management, and production staff to implement each production’s lighting requirements.
- Assist with coordinating and supervising volunteers and additional electricians as assigned.
- Maintain lighting equipment, storage areas, and workspaces in a safe and organized condition.
SCHEDULE AND PAY
- Approximately 25 hours per week on average, with weekly hours varying according to the production calendar.
- Schedule may include daytime, evening, and weekend calls, particularly during load-in, technical rehearsals, and strike.
