POSITION SUMMARY
Weathervane Playhouse seeks a skilled theatre technician to serve as Carpenter and/or Master Electrician for the 2025–2026 season.
This contract position reports to the Technical Director and supports production needs as assigned, including scenic construction, lighting implementation, load-ins, and strikes. Responsibilities vary by production and are assigned as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- BA or BFA in Technical Theatre required or MFA preferred, or equivalent three to five years of professional experience.
- Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to read plans, drawings, and schematics.
- Proficiency in shop and theatre safety practices.
- Computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, AutoCAD or Vectorworks).
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and work on ladders or in elevated positions.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Experience in welding, rigging, sound, or painting is beneficial.
CARPENTER DUTIES
- Construct, install, maintain, and strike scenery for productions.
- Help maintain a safe and organized shop and workspace.
- Assist with planning, scheduling, and supervision of overhire or volunteers.
- Support technical rehearsals and make repairs during show runs.
- Follow safety protocols and ensure tools and materials are properly stored.
MASTER ELECTRICIAN DUTIES
- Implement lighting designs from plot to hang, focus, and strike.
- Program and operate lighting consoles during rehearsals or performances.
- Maintain and repair lighting and electrical equipment.
- Run power and control for conventional, automated, and LED fixtures.
- Collaborate with designers, stage management, and production staff.
SCHEDULE AND PAY
- Average 20–30 hours per week, with occasional heavier or lighter weeks depending on production needs.
- Schedule follows Weathervane’s production calendar.
- Starting rate: $18 per hour, commensurate with experience.
