Weathervane’s Summer Theatre Academy 2024 offers a wide variety of camps focusing on acting, storytelling, musical theatre, dance and more! Camps range from one- to two-week sessions, with each ending in a final presentation. Students will bring their own lunch each day.

Camps begin June 3rd and run through August 9, 2024, and are offered for ages 3 to 17.

Partial-scholarship support is available for classes at Weathervane due to the generous support from the community. To apply, please fill out a scholarship application or call (330) 836-2626 to request an application (via the mail).

All scholarship requests must be received prior to registering your child and no later than two weeks prior to the start of class.

Acting and Theatre Camps

Kids Take the Stage, Act 1: Pirates AHOY!
Ages 5 to 8
June 3 – June 14 ( 2 Weeks) 
10:00 am- 2:00 pm (Check in at 9:45)

Join us as we explore the world of pirates through acting games, storytelling, and creative fun! Students will spend their days using their imaginations to bring their own original stories to life inspired by the bandits of the sea to create a final informal presentation being presented on the last day of camp. So, grab your shipmates and pirate hat and join us this summer!

 
Kids Take the Stage, Act 2: Out of this World
Ages 8 to 12
July 15 – July 26 (2 weeks)

Ever wanted to visit out of space? Well now you can in this two-week acting camp! Students will spend their days using their imaginations to bring their own original stories to life inspired by the unknown of space and its inhabitants to create a final presentation that will be presented on the last day of camp. So, grab your astronaut helmet and join us this summer!

MUSICAL THEATRE CAMPS

Musical Theatre Cabaret: Disney Royalty A
Ages 3 to 4
June 24th – June 28th (1 Week)

Disney magic this way! Students will learn the basics of acting, singing, and dancing while focusing on a different Disney character/story each day. Each performer will have the chance to showcase what they've learned in an informal performance on our Weathervane stage at the end of the week. Get ready to belt out your favorite Disney songs and explore the wonderful world of musical theatre!

Grab your cheetah print and swing on over as you sing, dance, and act in this one-week camp to become the king of the jungle!  Students will work with an instructor to create characters, perform choreography, and sing songs inspired by the lush jungle! Students will present their performance on the last day of camp. 

Muscial Theatre Cabaret: Broadway Through the Decades
Ages 12- 17
August 5 – August 9 (1 Week)
10:00 am- 2:00 pm

Come explore your love of Broadway as we travel through the decades of musical theatre history. Students will learn the different vocal, dance and acting styles of the most iconic Broadway shows from the past century. Each performer will be given a solo to showcase what they've learned at the end of our session and perform on our Weathervane stage! Come Charleston, Fosse, and Hamilton your way through history. 

TEEN INTENSIVES

Performance Intensive
Ages 11 to 17
June 10 –June 21 (2 weeks)
10:00 am- 3:00 pm
Tuition: $365.00
 

Our performance Intensive is for students who are ready to put on a show! This fast-paced workshop produces a fully scripted production in 2 weeks. Students will work with a professional director and receive training and guidance to bring their masterpiece to life.

This years’ play will be announced the week before the camp!

 

Tech Intensive
Ages 10 to 17
June 10 – June 21 (2 weeks)

The Tech Intensive is a 2-week program for students who want to study the visual elements of theatre from costumes, props, lighting to set design. Students will work alongside our technical staff and a performance intensive director to design, create, and run tech for the final performance.

DANCE AND MOVEMENT CAMPS

Dance Intensive A
Ages 8 to 11
July 8th – July 12th

Our dance intensives are for students wanting to brush up on their dance technique and get one on one instruction from professional choreographers. Students will study ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, and contemporary dance technique throughout the week(s). This is a fabulous opportunity to take your dance training to the next level in a challenging but judgment - free atmosphere. 

Dance Intensive B
Ages 12 to 17
July 15th – July 26th ( 2 weeks)

Acting for the Dancer
Ages 12 to 17

This camp is designed to provide dancers with the tools to build on their character and storytelling skills as performers. Dancers have a unique understanding of their instrument like no other artist. While actors tell a story with words, dancers are able to tell a story with just their bodies. Through this camp, dancers will be introduced to a variety of ideas and topics through active discussions and movement exercises while also using acting exercises such as improvisation and pantomime to bring out the fun, and exploration in their dancing as they work to putting on a beautiful story devoid of words. 

SPECIALTY CAMPS

The Directing Project
Ages 10 to 17
July 22 – August 2
10:00 am- 2:00 pm
Tuition: $365
 
 
Learn what it’s like to run the show! In this class, students will learn the principles and practices of being a stage director. Students will cast, stage, rehearse, and present short scenes with the assistance of an experienced instructor. Students from the class will also gain the benefit of acting in each other’s scenes.
 
*Must apply or be recommended for this class. Prior acting classes or performance experience is required.
