Submission Rules/Guidelines/General Information
All 10-minute play submissions will be accepted until 5 p.m. on May 16, 2012.
All entrants will receive acknowledgment of their submissions and, following the contest’s closing, notification of the eight Finalist plays. The list of Finalists will also be listed here on this website.
Maximum running time length is 10 minutes. Less is fine.
Cast maximum is three. Any combo, gender-wise. No characters under the age of 16, please.
Set must be very simple and utilize easily moved furniture/set pieces. Similarly, costumes and "tech" must be uncomplicated and easily done. No period pieces, no musicals.
Playwrights must be U.S. citizens and be at least 18 years old.
Submitted plays must be unproduced and unperformed, outside of readings and workshops. Submitted plays may have been entered in other contests.
There is a $10 administrative fee per playwright. Playwrights may submit a maximum of two entries for this administrative fee. (Please see below for "Why We Charge an Administrative Fee.")
Employees of Weathervane Community Playhouse and their immediate families are ineligible to enter.
By submitting an entry, you are affirming that you are the sole creator of the play, and entitled to confer performance rights. You further affirm that, if you are chosen as a Finalist, you will grant performance rights, royalty-free, to Weathervane Playhouse for three performances during its 8x10 TheatreFest on July 13, 14 and 15, 2012. The play remains the sole property of the playwright.
The Inspiration
IMPORTANT! Each play must use this microphone as a prop. The microphone may be incidental, tangential, or the centerpiece of the play, but it must be seen on stage. Playwrights should feel free to use the microphone in any way they want — a shaver, an alien weapon, an artifact found on the Titanic, etc. Likewise, the microphone can be endowed with characteristics or powers — it can be magical, or futuristic or extremely valuable, etc. Or...it can just be a microphone! (For all you geeks out there, this is a Shure 55SW with a total height of eight inches. It is a non-working model and has a stand which may also be used.)

Prizes
All eight finalists will receive full productions of their play and two tickets to the festival. (As much as we would love to arrange travel and accommodations for our finalists, unfortunately, we cannot!) If, however, playwrights are able to attend, we will welcome all and shower them with recognition!
Additionally, we will send out press releases about the finalist playwrights to our local publications and to any of the finalist playwrights’ respective outlets.
Thanks to a generous donor who very much enjoyed last year’s festival, we were able to increase our cash awards from 2011:
• First Place: $350
• Second Place: $250
• Audience Favorite: $150
• The five Runners Up: $50 each
Please address all questions to 8x10 TheatreFest Coordinator Eileen Moushey.

A FEW TIPS. . .
-
Follow the guidelines!
-
Number the pages of your play(s).
-
Include a cast of characters, with brief descriptions
-
Be careful of length — we will be very picky about sticking to 10 minutes or less!
-
Don't forget to include the "inspiration!"
