Announcing the Eight Finalist Plays in the 2016 8x10 TheatreFest

Tuesday, May 31, 2016 3:02:00 PM

A hitwoman, a barber and Schrödinger walk onto stage…what happens next?  Weathervane’s annual 8x10 TheatreFest, of course!

The sixth annual new-works play festival received 160 submissions from 29 states and five countries including Canada, Denmark, Ireland, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

The final eight scripts for the 2016 8x10 TheatreFest have been selected to be performed on the Weathervane stage July 15 to 17, 2016.  This year's eight finalist plays are:

ADORABLE DORIS by Irwin Rosenblum of Sacramento, CA

CONFESSIONS AT THE AVENUE P BARBER SHOP by Peter A. Balaskas of Clearwater, FL

MYRTLE BEACH SUNRISE by Vivian C. Lermond of Columbus, OH

PORT CITY BLUES by Jody McColman of Portland, ME

SCHRÖDINGER’S CASH by Barry Wood of Navenby, Lincolnshire, United Kingdom

SHADOWPLAY by T. Mason Brown of Akron, OH

THIRD WINDOW FROM THE RIGHT by Scott Mullen of North Hollywood, CA

VERY PRIVATE DETECTION by Carl L. Williams of Houston, TX

"Our 8x10 TheatreFest gives us the opportunity to create something new," said Melanie Pepe, Weathervane's Artistic Director. "Audiences who come to see these plays will experience eight, 10-minute plays that no one has ever staged before — that no one has seen before!

"This this year's plays are incredibly eclectic. From noir, to romantic comedy, and many things in between, this festival tells stories that will intrigue, inspire and entertain."

One twist in Weathervane’s contest is the use of a special prop, which must be featured in each of the entries. This year's prop was an envelope filled with money. The prop is picked by the previous year's audience.

All eight finalist plays will be presented at each of the festival’s three performances: Friday, July 15 at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, July 16 at 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, July 17 at 2:30 pm. Audiences will vote to select the first-, second- and third-place winners of the festival. They also will have the opportunity to help select the 2017 festival's inspirational prop! The Sunday matinee will be followed by a reception and the announcement of the winners.

Tickets to these performances are on sale now, and can be purchased by calling 330-836-2626 or CLICK HERE to buy tickets online.
