A Partnership with West Side Vocal Academy and New Adult Classes

Weathervane Playhouse is excited to announce a new partnership with West Side Vocal Academy to offer voice classes, individual lessons, musical theatre camps, and other offerings.

All partnership lessons and classes will take place at Weathervane Playhouse, located at 1301 Weathervane Ln. in Akron.

West Side Vocal Academy (WSVA) has been offering excellence in vocal training since 1997. Susan Wallin and Ron Hazelett are the cornerstones of WSVA and have taught together since 1996. Individual lessons will be available immediately, with the other offerings soon to follow.

SUSAN WALLIN, soprano, has performed at New York City Opera, Arizona Opera, Opera Carolina, Oper der Stadt Koln in Germany, Cleveland Opera and many other regional opera companies across the United States. She made her Carnegie Hall debut singing Handel’s Messiah and has performed with the Cincinnati, Cleveland, Canton, Akron, North Carolina symphonies among others. Her graduating seniors have been accepted to top-rated schools including Eastman School of Music, The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, Oberlin College, The University of Michigan, Baldwin Wallace University, Berklee College of Music, Boston Conservatory, American Musical and Dramatic Academy and New York University in vocal performance and musical theatre. Ms. Wallin holds a B.M. and an M.M. in vocal performance.

RON HAZELETT, bass, has performed with Kenley Players, Carousel Dinner Theatre, Ohio Light Opera, Cleveland Opera, National Light Opera Company, Spoleto Festival, Akron Symphony and the Cleveland Orchestra. Mr. Hazelett has taught in the area for over 20 years and his graduating students have been accepted to top-rated schools such as Oberlin College, The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, Otterbein University, Baldwin Wallace University, Kent State University, and New York University in vocal performance and musical theatre. Mr. Hazelett holds a B.M. in piano and an M.M. in vocal performance.

Also, starting this fall, Weathervane will be offering classes for adults on such topics as improvisation, beginning and advanced acting, acting for the camera, comedy writing, as well as other offerings. New Artistic Associate Fred Gloor will be spearheading the move into adult classes, as well as teaching some of the courses. In addition to being the Marketing Director and Artistic Associate at Weathervane, he also teaches in the theatre departments of Cuyahoga Community College West and Baldwin Wallace University.
