Weathervane Playhouse Presents A Christmas Carol: The Musical
Don't Be a Humbug! Come See This Classic Holiday Tale!
Join Weathervane Playhouse this holiday season for the classic retelling of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. The music by the award-winning Disney composer Alan Menken brings emotional power and joy to this classic Dickens’ story though its beautiful melodies. The large cast transports audiences to Victorian London and includes high-energy dance numbers with gorgeous costumes.
“In addition to learning the dance steps and the songs of the show, the cast spent time learning about proper British pronunciation and what life was like for a Victorian child," said A Christmas Carol: The Musical Director Sarah Bailey. “The show is fast-paced and sure to fill the audience with the holiday spirit. In the words of Charles Dickens, ‘There is nothing in the world so irresistibly contagious as laughter and good humor.’”
In keeping with the spirit of the season, Weathervane Playhouse is joining the 2015 Hunger-Free Families holiday campaign of the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank. Donations of canned goods will be collected in the lobby. Please consider joining our cast and crew in bringing a can or two to support this worthwhile cause.
Playing Ebenezer Scrooge has been a roller coaster of emotions for Jeff Bixby, a retired school teacher who always spent the last week before holiday break reading Charles Dickens' classic and recreating the characters with great joy for his students. “Scrooge must be bitter and mean, but loveable. He is terrified, yet hopeful. In the end, he is overjoyed,” said Bixby. “Scrooge's promise that the sprits of the past, the present and the future will all live within him gives the hope that everyone can change, to become a better person.”
Haunting Scrooge as the ghost of Jacob Marley is Eric Mansfield, a three-time Emmy Award winner known locally for his many years as a news anchor and reporter with WKYC-TV.
