Weathervane Playhouse presents
“The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee”
Adults Playing Teens Offers Funny Look Back at Adolescent Angst
A local cast of adults playing tweens takes a comedic look at the pitfalls and triumphs of what it means to be an adolescent. Spellers vie for a spot in the biggest competitive spelling event of the year in Weathervane Playhouse’s production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee Dec. 3 to 19.
“Anyone who survived middle school will relate to the idiosyncrasies of the characters in this show. It's been a joy to revisit these pivotal years with the delightful cast of this production,” said Melanie Pepe, Weathervane’s Artistic Director. “Believe it or not, this cast can make going back to middle school a lot of fun.”
There are some surprises in the show and perhaps an unusual guest or two. You never know who is going to show up in a Weathervane production. Six spellers enter but only one speller can move on to the next round. And, at least, the losers get a juice box! The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is the winner of numerous awards — including the Tony Award for best book of a musical.
In keeping with the spirit of the season, Weathervane is joining the 2015 Hunger-Free Families holiday campaign of the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank. Donations of canned goods will be collected in the lobby. Please consider joining our cast and crew in bringing a can or two to support this worthwhile cause.
